We all know about the ball that drops in Times Square to ring in the New Year, but do you know about the 400 lb Peep that drops, too?
In the small town of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, lives the Just Born companyâthe makers of everyone’s favorite marshmallow treat, the Peep.
Each year, they host “Peepsfest.” An annual two-day New Year’s Eve festival held at the SteelStacks arts and cultural center in town.
Peepsfest includes a plethora of Peep-themed activities including a Peeps diorama contest, Peeps sculpture competition, magicians, a fun run, craft activities and a whole lot more.
The event began Dec. 30th and ended at 5:30 p.m. on the 31st. Why 5:30 p.m.? Because this was a family friendly Peepfest, the 400 lb Peep dropped at 5:15 p.m. on the 31st, to account for sleepy youngsters (and their parents).Â
And for everyone wondering, the enormous Peep was NOT edible.
